\u201c(\u2026) Tom Swoboda explores the artificial world of zoos, freeing himself from the role of a viewer following the paths imposed by the oculocentric architecture of such places. The artist mixes the human and animal order by changing perspectives, placing himself in a cage, focusing on seemingly insignificant details or disrupting perception. The use of technology in capturing the animal world is intended to make the recording device absent, invisible, and the shots designed to give the impression of penetration. Meanwhile, in Svoboda\u2019s photographs, it is different – the camera does not reveal anything here, but even emphasizes the impossibility of seeing. The image is often not clear due to the multitude of details, reflections and reflections, and it does not make us closer to animals. To paraphrase John Berger\u2019s words: the more we look at them, the farther they are. Especially that animals are almost absent in Svoboda\u2019s works. In the illusory environment of zoos, in their theatrical scenery, they stay on the outskirts, because perhaps (as Berger wants) there is something more real than a steppe painted on the wall or tropical vegetation – miserable prostheses of the territory they have lost. The spaces photographed by Swoboda are multi-layered, as if their successive elements were to poorly improve it. Improving the infrastructure of zoos in line with new research and architectural trends is constant inept repairing and building up a structure that cannot be repaired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artysta miesza ludzki i zwierz\u0119cy porz\u0105dek poprzez zmiany perspektyw, umieszczanie samego siebie w klatce, poprzez skupianie si\u0119 na pozornie nieistotnych detalach czy zaburzanie percepcji. Stosowanie technologii w rejestrowaniu \u015bwiata zwierz\u0105t ma w za\u0142o\u017ceniu sprawi\u0107, \u017ce urz\u0105dzenie zapisuj\u0105ce b\u0119dzie nieobecne, niewidoczne, a uj\u0119cia stworzone tak, by dawa\u0142y wra\u017cenie wnikania. Tymczasem w fotografiach Swobody jest inaczej \u2013 aparat fotograficzny niczego tutaj nie odkrywa, a wr\u0119cz uwypukla niemo\u017cliwo\u015b\u0107 zobaczenia. Obraz jest cz\u0119sto nieklarowny przez wielo\u015b\u0107 detali, refleksy, odbicia i nie sprawia, \u017ce jeste\u015bmy bli\u017cej zwierz\u0105t. Parafrazuj\u0105c s\u0142owa Johna Bergera: im wi\u0119cej na nie patrzymy, tym s\u0105 nam one dalsze. Zw\u0142aszcza, \u017ce w pracach Swobody zwierz\u0119ta s\u0105 prawie nieobecne. W iluzorycznym \u015brodowisku ogrod\u00f3w zoologicznych, w ich teatralnych scenografiach przebywaj\u0105 na obrze\u017cach, bo mo\u017ce (jak chce Berger) jest tam co\u015b prawdziwszego ni\u017c wymalowany na \u015bcianie step czy tropikalna ro\u015blinno\u015b\u0107 \u2013 n\u0119dzne protezy utraconego przez nie terytorium. Przestrzenie fotografowane przez Swobod\u0119 s\u0105 wielowarstwowe, jakby kolejne ich elementy mia\u0142y j\u0105 w pokraczny spos\u00f3b udoskonali\u0107. Polepszanie infrastruktury ogrod\u00f3w zoologicznych zgodnie z nowymi badaniami i architektonicznymi trendami jest ci\u0105g\u0142ym jej nieudolnym naprawianiem i nadbudowywanie struktury, kt\u00f3rej naprawi\u0107 si\u0119 nie da.\u201d
Video INWAZJE odnosi si\u0119 do przekraczania wyznaczonych granic wybieg\u00f3w zwierz\u0105t w ogrodach zoologicznych. Obserwujemy kuriozalne sytuacje, gdzie cz\u0142owiek wcze\u015bniej wyznaczaj\u0105c zwierz\u0119ciu \u201cgranice terytorium\u201d \u0142amie t\u0105 sytuacj\u0119 swoim wtargni\u0119ciem do ich – zwierz\u0105t – przestrzeni. Video odnosi si\u0119 r\u00f3wnie\u017c w spos\u00f3b krytyczny do haniebnej historii tzw. human zoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
